The tide withdrew to a depth no season could explain, revealing a row of black roofs.
Beneath the bay stood a sunken post office. On its lintel were carved old words: Where the Undelivered Arrive. As the old man drew near, thousands of soaked letters rose from its windows, turning in the dark like fish.
Among them, Chaoyin recognized her father's handwriting.
But the letter was sealed by a copper stamp. It bore no address, only an order: Wait until the wind returns.
